Three events not to miss in Roma

Roma lives for big steaks, big rigs, and best of all, big events.

This year, why not follow the locals’ lead and head to one of their iconic events? There’s no better way to experience where country meets Outback!

Embrace the country spirit at Easter in the Country, marvel at Sculptures Out Back, and gear up for the region’s biggest race, the Roma Cup.

Find Roma 500 clicks west of South East Queensland, easily accessible along the Warrego Highway or just an hour’s flight from Brisbane.

Ready to go? Here’s everything you need to know about three of Roma’s top events.

1. Easter in the Country

Every Easter, Roma comes alive for its long-running signature event, Easter in the Country. This event is as big-hearted and lively as the Outback itself, with five packed days of fun.

Foodies will love the Outback Tucker Under the Stars opening dinner, featuring a three-course meal by a guest chef at the iconic Roma Saleyards. Thrill-seekers can catch the action at the MGA Xtreme Bulls and XXXX Pro Rodeo, showcasing Australia’s best rodeo athletes and elite livestock.

And all-around fun for the whole family and friends? There’s bucketloads, from the Street Parade to the Family Fun Day, including the wacky wife-carrying competition!

Easter in the Country is held every Easter long weekend. Head to Roma's Easter in the Country for more.

2. Sculptures Out Back

Sculptures Out Back is not your typical art exhibition.

Here, the open air becomes the gallery, and the artworks are built to endure the elements. From June to September each year, a new collection of outdoor sculptures are displayed next to the Warrego Highway, blending art and nature.

The exhibition kicks off in June with the opening event, where the most outstanding sculptures are recognised and awarded.

It’s the perfect opportunity to meet the artists, hear the stories behind their creations, and celebrate the talent on display. But if you can’t make the opening, don’t worry – the exhibition runs until September, giving you plenty of time to explore these incredible works at your own pace.

And the artistic journey doesn’t stop there. As you travel through the region, you’ll discover even more outdoor sculptures that capture the spirit of the Outback. From the mighty Injune Eagle to the Bull in Mitchell, these striking pieces are scattered across the landscape, waiting to be found.

3. Roma Cup, 21 November 2026

Marking the end of the Spring Carnival, the Roma Cup is the place to be every November. As summer chases away the last wisps of spring, Outback Queensland plays host to thousands of punters who descend on Roma’s Bassett Park for one of the best meets of the year.

And this one’s as much about racing as it is about having fun – besides what’s happening on the track, there’s live music, fashions on the fields and a huge party atmosphere.

If you’re keen to get to the Cup, be sure to plan ahead as accommodation can book out fast. Tickets are available online from October, check the Roma Turf Club website for more.
